Mentor Graphics Launches First Design Data Management System with Integrated Web-Based Component and Library Content

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2002--Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT - News) today announced DMS2002, the latest version of its design data management infrastructure solution that consolidates and manages work-in-progress design data and provides a tight integration between the design engineer and the extended enterprise.

DMS2002 expands the accessibility of component information from the corporate library to the wealth of data available on the Internet through specialized content providers, giving users a broader portfolio of decision and selection criteria in a very early phase of the design process.

DMS2002 now includes DMS-Xchange, a new communication and interchange platform that provides a dedicated eXtensible Markup Language (XML) link to third-party content providers. The first of several DMS-Xchange offerings is DMS-Xchange for PartMiner®, which is the result of an agreement between Mentor Graphics and PartMiner, Inc., a leading global supplier of electronic component information services to the electronics industry. DMS-Xchange for PartMiner allows DMS2002 users with PartMiner subscriptions to quickly and easily incorporate valuable PartMiner component data into their company's library as Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) symbols and component information.

"More than 25 percent of engineering time is inefficiently spent on information gathering. With the introduction of DMS in 2001, our customers experienced significant improvements to their entire design process because they drastically reduced the amount of time spent gathering information by integrating the engineer's desktop with the extended enterprise," said Uwe Schmid, Ph.D., managing director, systems data management at Mentor Graphics. "Mentor Graphics is entering the next phase of process improvement in library and component management with DMS-Xchange."

DMS-Xchange is based on XML, the most common standard for global data exchange used not only by specific companies, but also by global consortia, such as RosettaNet and MERCI and technology interfaces like PDX. Mentor Graphics is committed to these open standards and is actively promoting them via its RosettaNet board membership and other initiatives.

DMS2002 Benefits Product Development

As much as 80 percent of a product's lifecycle cost is determined during product development. DMS2002 streamlines the link between supply information and the designer, helping to lower product costs while ensuring quality and reliability.

Procurement has access to a variety of component information critical to buying decisions, linking with the designer to reduce product costs while increasing quality and reliability.

Engineering shortens search time and increases product quality by accessing all decision criteria through a single user interface for both corporate and Internet-based information.

Companies can lower library overhead costs while expanding the librarian's role to include quality control and corporate standards functions. With DMS2002, the time-consuming, error-prone and manual part creation tasks are eliminated by automatically generating graphical and logical library information with XML data received from content providers through a consistent search and select process.

Pricing and Availability

DMS2002 will be available in September 2002. DMS2002 and DMS-Xchange for PartMiner are integrated with the Mentor Graphics® Board Station® and Expedition(TM) tools, as well as Cadence Concept HDL. Pricing for the DMS2002 server license starts at $40,000 plus user licenses and installation. For more information, please visit www.mentor.com/dms.
